To renew a car licence in Egypt you usually need the old licence, valid compulsory insurance, a technical inspection certificate, a fines certificate showing fines are settled, then the fees and tax by engine size. Renew at the traffic unit, or online through the traffic portal or the Digital Egypt portal.
The expiry date is printed on the car licence, and the traffic law lets a private car be licensed for up to three years, at the owner's choice and under the executive regulations' conditions. Because it doesn't come round every year, many people forget it until a checkpoint stops them or they need to sell. Driving with an expired licence is a violation, and any late penalty is shown on the portal or at the unit when you pay.
Sayarti+ never asks for or stores your national ID number; the app only needs the licence expiry date.
Technical inspection is a core step in the traditional renewal: brakes, lights, tyres, engine and the chassis and engine numbers are checked. The traffic portal offers online «vehicle licence renewal» and «electronic sticker» services, and some cases are renewed without an inspection visit. Whether your case needs one, the portal tells you when you start the request. If your car runs on natural gas, bring the conversion papers and ask the inspection centre what it needs.
Tip: Before inspection: check every bulb works, tyres aren't bald, brakes are sound and indicator lenses aren't broken. A small fault can send you back for a second visit.

The cost is the sum of several items and depends on engine size, model year and licence period. The binding figures appear when you pay on the portal or at the unit; the table is for planning only.
| Item | Note |
|---|---|
| Annual vehicle tax | By engine size (cc) |
| Compulsory insurance | By licence period |
| Fines certificate | A fee shown when you request it |
| Technical inspection | Shown when you book or pay |
| Licence, sticker and delivery fees | Depends on the service; shown at payment |
| The fines themselves | Whatever is recorded on the car |
Good to know: We don't quote a rough total because the items vary a lot by car. Start the request on the portal weeks before the date to see your own figure before paying.

If you prefer the traditional route, the same papers go to your traffic unit. Fines can also be checked on the Interior Ministry's traffic portal (traffic.moi.gov.eg › «Traffic fines inquiry»).
